Coming from New England we have a high standard of expectations in our accommodations. Pulling into Starlight Pines we immediately felt at home. The innkeepers, Maxx and Monica are old friends we hadn't yet met. The building is impeccably clean, far exceeding COVID protocols, I suspect this is their everyday standard. We were fortunate to stay in the dragonfly room, home to a generous clawfoot soaking tub, fireplace and king sized bed. The ceilings are high, the linens are cozy, but most of all it was the best inn we've had the pleasure of staying in, after dozens across the country and Canada.

Maxx and Monica are well versed in local culture, can give tips and suggestions for things to do, what to try, and where to be for even an ISS fly over. But the real win was the sweet duo who clearly run the show, Lucy and Lily, the Inn pups!

Breakfast, my goodness, where to start. Daily there was scratch prepared hot meals featuring eggs, fruit, local bacon and incredible pastries and breads. We left too full everyday and convinced Maxx to scale back for us as we don't typically eat full breakfast! Coffee over flowing, and in room k-cup and tea kettle with huge selections of coffee tea, hot chocolate. We were offered access to seltzers and bottled water throughout our trip as well. After hours of exploring national parks there was always fresh treats waiting for us to come home to. Maxx I'm going to get that brownie recipe out of you my friend! Truly the best brownies, amazing cookies and always fresh fruit available. But coming into the inn and being greeted with comfy slippers, Lily and Lucy, and your smiling (I could see it behind the masks!) faces made the trip from New England worth it. We're coming back and staying longer!

After much research for a B&B in Flagstaff, one phone call with the Inn host had me sold that this was the one we were looking for. Maxx spoke warmly and excitedly to me about their Inn and I felt like we were already old friends and we had not even met! That night I made my husband call to make our anniversary reservations. We ended up postponing our trip due to COVID and each time we spoke to Maxx he was happy to reschedule our visit and we would talk about the measures they were implementing to assure the health and safety for not only them, but their guests. We were pleasantly surprised on how many precautions they had taken and even with masks on, we felt right at home. The Inn and our room was immaculate and they had truly thought of everything from COVID safety measures (such as in-room dinette tables for social distancing for breakfast) to surprising us with a bottle of wine on our private back patio for my husbands birthday. We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch relaxing and visiting with Maxx, Monica, and their two precious pups, Lucy and Lily. They helped us with our dining and hiking plans so that we were able to avoid crowds and enjoy our hikes and meals safely. We were sad our weekend stay ended, but know that we will be back to visit them again soon so we can see our new friends again.

If you prefer the clean lines of a 1920's design to Victorian froufrou, consider staying at this stylish B&B on the city's quieter, residential east side.
Guest rooms are lovely, with art deco pieces including Tiffany lamps and other antiques. The Lilly room has a private balcony looking out on Mt. Elden. All the rooms have claw foot tubs to enjoy a soak after a day's hike.

For anybody, not from America, this place is a must! Maxx, the new owner, has made this a bit of the America we all hope to experience, when traveling to the country, but which one only can, if one were to stay in the home of an American.

Nothing was a problem for our host. We felt spoiled rotten and the my children absolutely loved staying at his place, so much, they didn't want to leave. They were really chuffed, when we got back back to England, to receive the postcards that Maxx had prepared for them, to write to themselves, stamps and all, which he then posted for us, after we left.

Maxx got up really early one morning, to make us an amazing portable breakfast, so that we could get to the Grand Canyon, first thing, to do a hike with the Rangers. We insisted that we were happy to go without, given that were leaving before his set breakfast hours, but he generously insisted on waving us off, provisions and coffee in hand.

Our favorite experience, was sitting out on the porch, one evening, and having a supper of selections, bought from a local deli, with a bottle of wine. Maxx kindly provided us with wine glasses, crockery and utensils and even allowed us to prep the meal in his kitchen. How kind! The evening of conversation, against the background sound of night critters, was precious, quality, family-time and it was one of the most memorable moments of our vacation.

If you have the chance, go and stay with Maxx! His B&B is more than a place to stay, its a destination in its own right.

Maxx greeted us warmly in his beautiful home, a house tastefully decorated in the 1912 style. We immediately felt at home in our Dragonfly room. Maxx was a helpful host, obtaining some useful information for us. The breakfast table was elegantly laid out and the food was excellent - a wonderful way to start the day!
We just spent three weeks sightseeing in the US, and Starlight Pines was by far the best place we stayed at. If you have to spend the night in Flagstaff, this is your address.

From the warm greeting by our hosts Maxx and Lucy to the heartfelt goodbyes when we left, we have never felt more pampered or cared for by any other B&B host. The decor was gorgeous - your eyes will enjoy the turn of the century attention to detail in the room decor, the rooms were comfortable and inviting. And the breakfasts! The breakfasts exploded with tantalizing flavors from the Grand Mariner French toast to egg souffle. There is nothing Maxx can't do for breakfast! Don't pass up this gem in the cool pines of Flagstaff.

This place is phenomenal! The new owners created the perfect ambiance in this Victorian style house. Extremely clean and nicely decorated. My favorite part was the amazing breakfast served which allowed us to connect with the other B&B guests. To sum up the experience it felt like I was in a hallmark movie. I will be going again! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for the perfect vacation get away.

We happened upon Starlight Pines after cancelling a stay elsewhere. So glad we did! Maxx was a gracious host who made sure all of our needs were taken care of - great recommendations about where to go for a quick hike and the best pizza in Flagstaff.

The room was clean and lovely, the bed comfy, the breakfast was sumptuous, and the company was wonderful. Can't rave enough about this little gem. And can't wait to return to Starlight Pines. Thanks Maxx!

Our trip was delayed due to weather by the airline...We were so happy that Maxx allowed us to change one date of our reservation, that way were at least we weren't out money. He was also very accommodating with times for breakfast, dinner reservations and suggesting attractions! We loved Lucy the friendly doggie greeter. Food was great!

My husband and I stay here whenever we have the opportunity for a stopover in Flagstaff - it has always been completely wonderful. This was our first stay since Richard and Michael left for the Northwest. We missed them, but Max and his faithful canine companion Lucy (arf!) were also delightful hosts. The breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious. A new dinner recommendation was just what we were looking for. The beauty of the setting and the house itself surprise us anew each visit. Thanks, Max, for your warm hospitality. We'll be back. Lili and John

We had a wonderful stay at Starlight Pines. Monica, Maxx and Lucy were wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The B&B is excellently presented and on a cold night the open fire places are wonderful to sit around. The 2 course breakfast was brilliant and would keep most of us going all day. The hosts were very knowledgeable regarding the sights and attractions in the area and their suggestions helped us to make their best use of our time and enjoy the area so much more. The rooms and en-suite are very generous proportions beautifully decorated. The sitting and dining areas are very welcoming after a long day touring, hiking or sightseeing. We will definitely be staying again next time we are in the area.

My wife and I planned an anniversary trip to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. We flew into Flagstaff and spent the first night at Starlight. We could not have been happier with our choice! Max and Monica were the perfect hosts. Went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The place is immaculately clean and has such character!
Max also gave us great sightseeing tips regarding the Grand Canyon.

Now let's discuss the breakfast! Huge bowl of fresh fruit and yogurt with granola, followed up with an egg souffle that was amazing. The crispy bacon as a side was the topper! Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed if you stay here for one or multiple nights. We are super happy with our choice! Thanks for the memories!!
