Out Magazine, Mathew, did a wonderful article on The Grand Canyon and the State of Arizona as a whole! We believe he stayed with us and included (without mention of our names) us in paragraph 4 of the first page of his on-line article…Mathew never told us who he worked for either! How sly! Then he mentions and includes a hyperlink, to our B/B only, in the below link - along with our 2 sister Inns!

Recommendation from the Arizona Republic

Starlight Pines - Built to replicate a 1912 Victorian farmhouse, Starlight Pines is at the foot of Mount Elden, about a five-minute drive from downtown. Stay in the Lily Room and you have a private balcony with a view of Mount Elden. All bathrooms have claw-footed tubs. There's a wraparound front porch, and shih tzus Moo Shu and Taz are always eager to socialize. Guests eat breakfast at a common dining-room table. There's a fireplace in the adjacent living room, which is stocked with board games and books.

Katri Manninen, famous Finnish best selling author and produced screenwriter, and her cameraman (who she is in love with) , are traveling from Key West to Los Angeles to shoot a travel documentary. Their journey through the most romantic places in America is also a test of their love: do they still want to get married in Las Vegas after they’ve spent 4 weeks on the road?

Come Ocean is a story about an unlikely romance, the cultural conflicts it brings, and how being stuck together in a car on a month long road trip can make or break a relationship. This story will be told through a feature length documentary film, an 8 episode travel series made for television and in a non-fiction book that is a cross between a guide book and travelogue.

More exciting news for Starlight Pines Bed & Breakfast AND Flagstaff as well!!  Below is a brief summary of what is taking place by the producer/screenwriter and best selling author’s newest project!  We anticipate the following from their stay here with us as well –

Our property will get at least a half page introduction in the book and will be featured in the television series. It will also appear in the documentary. They selected our property because they believe that it is unique enough to fit the needs of this project. It's quaint, romantic and interesting and can be presented in a positive light in the book, television series and the documentary.

Thanks to modern technology, this film can be shot with just a two person crew which gives the documentary a very special feel: the grandeur of nature meets the intimacy of romance.

The goal of the filmmakers is to have the documentary accepted as an official selection at Cannes Film Festival. They've already secured guaranteed distribution in Finland and are in the negotiations with German and American distributors. Ultimately they seek worldwide distribution.

The music for the documentary is provided by Beats and Styles, a band that is huge in Europe and soon coming to America.

Finnish broadcasting company Channel Four (Nelonen) has made a preliminary order for an eight episode traveling documentary of the trip. In the film, the main emphasis is on the love story.  In the T.V. series it is on the traveling destinations and locals met along the way.

The Come Ocean book is all about the journey: the people and places and love story. It will have tons of photos and practical information. It will be published in Finnish by Gummerus Oy and in English for U.S. consumers.

Katri Manninen wrote her first novel at the age of 18 and has since written, co-written or rewritten 2 feature films, 23 books, 50 columns and over 100 episodes of prime time television. She has also worked as a high society reporter for one of Finland’s best talk shows and her film FC VENUS, which beat out both King Kong and Narnia in the Finnish box office, was sold to Germany for an instant remake and is now considered for a remake in the U.S.

Carey Lee Coffey is a very talented up-and-coming filmmaker and producer. He has studied filmmaking in Orlando Film School and Hollywood film institute, and has worked with a successful Hollywood producer. He has several projects in various stages of development.
